Here at the Postal Network we
strive to host all possible files related with POSTAL and RWS.
If you have a file
you'd like to have it hosted and you're wondering how it
works, please read below.
Thank
you.

GUIDELINES

GENERAL GUIDELINES
The Process
If you never had a file hosted
by us then here's a small idea on the process.
You
contact us >> We get
your file >> We
upload it to our server >> We
update the site
This process has no defined
timeline so it can take from minutes to days.
Now read below and make sure
you have followed every guideline as possible. Once you know
what to do, you'll get used to it.
Creating Information
People who download your files
will most likely want to know what expects them. Therefore, always
include a small readme.txt file with a description of
what they have downloaded. You may add personal information or
not, it's up to you.
For custom maps, please use this
Readme Template (thanks Patrick!). Even if your file is not a map, you might
want to see that readme template for ideas and even adapt it to
your file.
Everyone likes instructions so
make sure you include the right instructions on how to use your
files.
Compacting Files
ALWAYS compress your files. We initially
picked the Zip format and therefore in order to keep
consistency we are keeping it, even if sometimes other
compress methods be smaller (but usually not that significant).
Also, do not send loose files.
Pack everything you want to send, even if you are just sending
1 file. If you need a Zip program, try using winzip.
Checking Size
Is your compressed file below 1mb
(note: 1 megabyte)? Then
you may send it to our email. If not, please check below in
the "Sending the files" for additional instructions
on how to get your file to us.
Determining the category
What type of file is it? A map? a
splash screen? Make sure you see additional guidelines for
each type of file.
Screenshots
In-game screenshots help other
users to have an idea of your work before downloading the file.
If you have a map then screenshots are imperative! You may add
up to 4 screenshots per file, and annex them in the email when
you send us (or include in the compressed file).
Sending the files
Alright! It's time to send your
files.
1st time having your file hosted?
If you never had a file hosted, and therefore there is no
author information, please include the name you wish to have
the work credited for; You can also include your website and
an email contact, although they are optional.
Already have a file hosted? If we
have your author information already then just include your
name. We'll then bind your file to your name.
Add a brief description on what
you are sending us in the email too, please.
So, how will you send us your
file? Well you have several methods. Here's what we suggest:
- If you can have your file
hosted temporarily, on your server or some friend's
server, then just give us the link so we can download it.
- Can't have it hosted
elsewhere? Well, try using websites like Rapidshare.de
or Yousendit.com -
Then email us with the link where we can download.
All done? Ok. Then our email is:
files@postalnetwork.org
If everything is ok, we will not
email you, but if something is missing or there's a problem we
will contact you asap.
So, when will your file be
hosted? Well it depends. It can take from minutes to days. It
depends on how real life outside the screen demands, so please
bare with us. Thanks!
POSTAL 2 FILES
Splash Screens
Do not send just the .bmp file.
Compress the image and a small text file with description of the
what the file is.
Texture-Mods
Most texture-mods alter the
original files so always include what files will your mod
change and how to create a backup and the respective
instructions on how to use the files.
Also, by experience if your mod
requires the user to manually alter the textures, instead of
just replacing the original texture file, most users will feel
tempted in NOT trying it out due to the complicated steps
required.
Maps
Make sure you use the
Readme Template along with your map.
If its a single-player map don't
forget to add the prefix "cus-" before the name of
the map.
An example: cus-mymap.fuk
If its a multiplayer map make
sure you add the prefix that matches its game mode. Deathmatch
maps have the prefix DM- (e.g. dm-mymap.fuk
).
Other Mods
Because mods require the user to
make some changes manually, always include the specific
instructions. Some mods alter the original files so always include what files will your mod change and how to create a
backup.
OTHER FILES
Movies and Audio
Most movies are always big in
size so we suggest you in trying to keep them below 30mb. How
to do this? Well, you will most likely need to encode the file
in a special format (like DivX) or just reduce its quality (be
its image or sound).
Everything Else
We can't think of any other
type right now, so if didn't see your type of file here don't
go postal yet. We're always open to every file, as long as it
is related with the game or the community.
